The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
