Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the authorities about his concerns.

She said Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five children.
